This week I was invited to an event a little bit out of my comfort zone – a chance to try out Belfast’s newest ‘dance fitness’ classes at Aurora Dance Studio, Fountain Street, Belfast. As someone who does not find traditional exercise particularly enjoyable, I was interested in finding out more about alternative ways to burn some calories. I took my cousin Anna with me to see what it was all about!
After success with Aurora Dance Company, offering dance classes predominantly to children, Aurora Studios owner Erin Lyle saw a gap in the market for a City Centre dance studio. Aurora Studios offer adult fitness classes with inspiration from hip hop, Latin, ballet, and burlesque dancing. Also on offer are Rebounding classes (exercising on a mini trampoline), Yoga and Circuits.
We had a go at Rebounding, Ballet Fitness and ‘Burlexercise’. All three were great fun and totally different to anything fitness related I’ve done in the past, with the only comparison being the Zumba classes I used to go to. My favourite would have to be the Ballet Fitness. Not too intense and I really enjoyed the routine. I will definitely be back to try out the hour long version of this class!
The studio is bright and airy, and perfectly located right in the centre of Belfast. The timetable has early morning, straight after work, or evening classes, to suit everyone’s busy schedules. Essentially it is a non intimidating, fun place to keep fit and learn a few dance moves in the process! This type of exercise is so much more suited to me than pounding the treadmill or more straightforward, cardio based workouts.
Thanks Aurora for a great evening!
